Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I joined the Rotary club of Flacq in 2017 where I got the opportunity to become member of a global movement ‘The Rotary International’ with an inspiring motto ‘Service Above Self’ which coveys the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service.
It is my honour and privilege to address to you as the New President of our club for the year 25/26 under the theme ‘Unite for good’.
First, I congratulate our outgoing President Vicky Nunkoo and all members of the Rotary club of flacq for the remarkable and impactful year 24/25 under the Theme ‘The magic of Rotary’. Our President has been magical in his approach and no doubt, our projects and activities have brought a sense of relief, comfort and warmth to the lives of so many needy people in our community.
Dear friends, I would like to thank all members of the club for the trust and belief they placed on me to take lead the club to greater heights in accomplishing our role as a service club. I assure you that I will act to the best of my capabilities in assuming my role as President.
I will favour a democratic style of leadership where each and every member will have an equal say in the affairs of the club. George Orwell is notorious for his quote ‘We are all equal but some are more equal than others.’ However, within our Rotary community, ‘we are equal and we will remain equal’. I will passionately lead our club with kindness, dignity and humility.
We provide comfort and security to our family members within the boundaries of our home. Unfortunately, our family evolve in a mostly unrestrained society with numerous challenges such as the scourge (isskurge) of drugs, the worsening of our environment, a lack of care and compassion towards our elderly people, erosion of values and a sheer lack of discipline amongst our youngsters.
I strongly believe it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to ensure a secure and conducive community for our children and families. In this wake, during my mandate, my focus areas will be education of our youth, health and wellness and environment stewardship. Some key projects will be the LN4 Prosthetic Arm project, awareness campaign for our youth on the devastating consequences of drugs, numeracy and literacy for our elderly through the ‘Anou Al Apran’ project, career guidance and career fair for our youngsters, restoration of a recreational space for our elderly at Argy, donation of wheelchairs to needy children, assistance to needy children at Belle-Mare and many others.
‘Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.’ I am immensely grateful to be surrounded by a marvellously dedicated team at RCF where ‘ We don’t wait for change to happen, we make it happen.’
The love of a family is life’s greatest blessings. At the Rotary Club of Flacq, we greatly value the love, support and care of our family members in supporting us in our projects and activities. My mandate will be inclusive of families and children on a broader spectrum where spouses will be part of our initiatives. The Rotary Spouse team has already been re-activated and several activities are in the pipeline to promote family welfare at RCF.
Last but not the least, I am grateful to my family members, namely my mother, my two brothers, sisters-in-law, my wife and my little son and best friend Jasveer for the support and motivation they provide me to be what I am today.
I will also thank my sponsor PP Raj who initiated me to the club. My deep and profound respect to my mentor Late PP Bobby Madhub and Rtn Hussad Ramjaun for their advice and wisdom shared to me.
Successful people are action-oriented and Rotarians are people of action. Let us carry our passion to serve into the new year with renewed energy and commitment to our shared goals. Let us unite for good and synergize our positive mindset to make our community a better place to live.
Long live the Rotary Club of Flacq
Long Live Rotary International
Long live the republic of Mauritius
Yours in Rotary,
Pravesh SAWDAGUR
President 2025-2026
